About

Hi!  I’m Amy Ziff.  I’m a busy Mom to three young kids, a healthy living coach, wellness advocate and blogger with a genetic predisposition to toxicity. (That means I have the MTHFR gene mutation, for those who want a little more science. And my kids share the same trait.)  We don’t process toxins in our environment as well as some people, and it turns out this isn’t such a rarity. About half the population lives with this genetic “mutation” but doesn’t know it.  I’m determined to make the world a less toxic place for everyone’s benefit!

Last year my “buy better” advocacy work reached over 1.5 Million people and I’m helping Moms harness their collective purchasing power to bring about massive change.

Women control 85% of America’s wallet.  We can change the world by simply changing how, where and what we shop for. Over the last four years I have developed a database and way to screen products (you can find them all at the Veritey Shop) allowing people to easily find healthier, nontoxic product selections.

As a Mom to sensitive children, I experienced the difficulty firsthand with trying to find better, safer, nontoxic items. There simply was no way to trust that what I was buying was truly safe and nontoxic for my children. There is so much confusion and greenwashing in the marketplace that I started keeping detailed notes about products and manufacturers which later grew into the Veritey Shop.  What companies put in their products can be shocking, including known carcinogens and endocrine disrupting chemicals that can lead to an array of conditions from cancer to infertility, asthma to ADHD — and what’s worse is they don’t have to disclose these chemicals.

Our world assaults us silently with un-natural products, even in products that claim to be helpful.  Children are more susceptible to the adverse effects from chemicals than adults. Seemingly innocuous ingredients that claim to be “anti bacterial” or “natural” or “sun blocking” are often more harmful than helpful. Frequent and early use of some chemicals can impact an immune system for life. For life!  What we do matters.  But how is a Mom supposed to do right by her children if she isn’t properly informed?

I’ve learned that just because a product is on a shelf in a store doesn’t mean that is has been screened for safety or that the ingredients won’t be harmful. The reality of the way things work now is that industry is largely left to self-police and individuals are responsible for knowing what’s safe and what’s not. With over 84,000 chemicals to learn that is impossible for any individual. But it’s easy if you have a database along with a panel of expert doctors, toxicologists, and chemists guiding you.

I believe you shouldn’t need a PhD to decipher what products are safe to use and which to avoid.  Yet the reality is that getting to the truth of what’s in a product — even food — can take hours of research and a lot of legwork.  Most busy moms and parents just don’t have that kind of time.

This is a very personal lesson for me as I learned early on in my own life that what you eat, the products you use, and your surroundings can have a major impact on your health and wellbeing.  When I was 9 my Mom literally saved my life. She rejected conventional allopathic thinking when I was diagnosed with Sydenham’s Chorea with a prognosis that, at the time, some Doctors believed to be a life sentence. Instead of allowing me to wither and die, she took me on a progressive journey to Doctor after Doctor until she found someone who believed in my health and full recovery.  My full recovery happened quickly as we removed toxins and irritants from my diet and surroundings.

Now, as a caretaker and a Mother, I refuse to be casual about decisions, like the soap that washes my children, the toys they play with, or what I feed them.  Living this way helps me give my kids the very best start in life to foster their best self.  And I can show you how to do this too.

Ziff currently teaches classes on living a NoTox life, blogs about the chemical world we live in, and is launching the first Nontoxic seal of approval. Ziff is changing the world for the healthier one product at a time, one person at a time, one home at a time.
